Today we'll discuss the history of the bicycle. The first two-wheeled vehicle, called the draisine, appeared in 1817 and had no pedals. Riders pushed their feet along the ground. In the 1860s, the pedal-driven bicycle was invented in France, with pedals attached to the front wheel. Later, the high-wheel bicycle became popular, but it was dangerous due to its large front wheel. Finally, in 1885, the 'safety bicycle' was introduced with a chain drive and equal-sized wheels, making riding much safer and more efficient.
