This not only affects the corals themselves but also the diverse species that depend on them for shelter and food. Interestingly, some reefs in cooler waters, like those off the coast of California, are less affected. However, scientists warn that without significant carbon emission reductions, over 90% of tropical reefs could suffer severe bleaching by 2050.
