Today, in our environmental science lecture, we'll discuss the impact of urban green spaces on city temperatures. Recent studies show that parks can reduce surrounding air temperatures by up to 2 degrees Celsius, mainly due to shade and evapotranspiration from trees. However, the effect is stronger with larger, connected green areas rather than small isolated ones. For example, a continuous park of 10 hectares can influence up to 300 meters beyond its border, whereas a smaller garden might only affect 50 meters. This has implications for urban planning, suggesting that we should prioritize creating corridors between green spaces to maximize cooling benefits.
