Today in our environmental science lecture, we're discussing urban green spaces. A recent study in Melbourne found that adding more parks and community gardens can reduce the city's average temperature by up to 2 degrees Celsius during summer. However, the researchers noted that the benefits depend on the size and connectivity of these spaces. Small, isolated gardens have less impact than large, interconnected parks. The study also highlighted that residents living within 500 meters of a green area reported lower stress levels and better mental health. Interestingly, the effect was stronger for older adults than for younger people.
