In 1817, a German inventor named Karl Drais created a wooden, two-wheeled machine called the 'Draisine'. It had no pedals; riders pushed their feet against the ground to move. However, it was not until the 1860s in France that pedals were added to the front wheel, creating what we now recognize as a bicycle. Interestingly, early models were nicknamed 'boneshakers' due to their rigid frames and iron wheels, making rides extremely uncomfortable.
