Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. Now, many people assume that the bicycle was invented in the 19th century, and that's partly true. The first two-wheeled, pedal-less machine appeared in 1817, but it wasn't until 1860s that pedals were added. However, the most significant change came in 1885 when the 'safety bicycle' was introduced. This design featured equal-sized wheels and a chain drive, making it much safer and easier to ride. Interestingly, the popularity of cycling then led to improved road surfaces, which later benefited early motorists. So, despite its humble beginnings, the bicycle had a profound impact on transportation.
