Good morning, everyone. Today we're going to discuss the impact of urbanization on local wildlife. In particular, I want to focus on the common sparrow, which has seen a dramatic decline in many cities. Recent studies show that the main reason is not lack of food, but rather the loss of suitable nesting sites. Modern buildings with sealed roofs and smooth walls offer fewer crevices for sparrows to build nests. Interestingly, cities with more parks and gardens have higher sparrow populations, suggesting that green spaces play a crucial role. However, even in these areas, sparrows face threats from domestic cats and pollution. Therefore, conservation efforts should prioritize creating bird-friendly building designs and preserving existing green corridors.
