Today in our environmental science lecture, we're discussing the impact of urban development on local wildlife. One key factor is the loss of natural habitats, which forces animals to adapt to city life. For example, some bird species have changed their nesting habits, building nests on buildings instead of trees. However, researchers have found that this adaptation can lead to higher mortality rates among chicks due to increased exposure to pollution and human disturbance. Interestingly, the study we reviewed also noted that green spaces within cities, like parks and rooftop gardens, can mitigate these negative effects by providing safer habitats. Yet, the success of these measures depends on the connectivity between such areas, allowing animals to move freely. So, what did the study conclude about urban green spaces?
