Today's lecture focuses on the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 2,000 residents over five years. Researchers found that people living within 300 meters of a park reported 20% lower stress levels. Interestingly, the type of vegetation mattered: areas with diverse tree species had a stronger positive effect than those with only grass. The study also noted that access to water features, like ponds, further enhanced the benefits. However, the effect was less significant for residents who lived near busy roads, suggesting noise pollution may counteract the calming influence of green areas.
