Today we're discussing the impact of urban green spaces. A recent study in Melbourne found that parks can reduce local temperatures by up to 4 degrees Celsius during heatwaves. Interestingly, the cooling effect extends beyond the park itself, reaching about 100 meters into surrounding neighborhoods. However, the researchers noted that this benefit depends on the park's size and tree density. Small gardens with scattered trees had minimal effect, while large, densely wooded areas provided the most significant cooling. The study also highlighted that water features, like ponds, enhance cooling but require careful maintenance to avoid mosquito breeding.
